Alternatives for PVC
July 24, 2025

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a true all-rounder – versatile, economical, and equipped with excellent technical properties. Its broad range of applications makes it indispensable across industries. However, the PVC sector is currently experiencing supply chain disruptions due to new export controls on antimony trioxide from Asia, leading to serious availability issues and significant price increases across Europe.

Antimony trioxide is widely used as a flame retardant additive, particularly in PVC-based applications, to reduce smoke density (notably hydrogen chloride gases) when combined with synergists.

In response to these challenges, KEYSER & MACKAY, in collaboration with its partners, now offers potential alternatives to antimony trioxide. These alternative synergists exhibit flame retardant activity and effective smoke suppression. Importantly, they are halogen-containing, REACH-registered, and carry no hazard classification—making them a suitable replacement for the restricted material.
